I was moved this week by a story on the web about a Swedish Zoo that slaughtered a healthy 2 year old Giraffe because of overcrowding. The carcass was butchered and fed to the Lions, all before a crown of onlookers including young children.
This practice is common at zoos around the world.
MAKES ONE THINK THAT IT MAY BE TIME TO CLOSE DOWN ZOOS. IT’S EASY TO UNDERSTAND, GOING BACK SEVERAL HUNDRED YEARS, BEFORE MODERN DAY MEDIA, WHY ZOOS MADE SOME SENSE. ZOOS AND CIRCUSES WERE THE ONLY WAY THAT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE COULD SEE THESE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES. THAT IS NO LONGER THE CASE.
I CONTEND THAT WITH TV SHOWS ON THE NATURE CHANNEL AND ACCESSABILITY OF INFORMATION ON THE WEB, THAT ONE CAN NOW FIND OUT MORE ABOUT ANIMALS THAN THEY WILL EVER LEARN LOOKING AT AN ANIMAL IN CAPTIVITY, LAYING IN THE SUN IN A STONE PIT AT A ZOO.
WITH DOMINION, COMES RESPONSIBILITY. LET’S STOP BREEDING AND IMPORTING ANIMALS AND LET ZOO’S DIE A NATURAL DEATH.
I’D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. EMAIL ME AT firstname.lastname@example.org.
That’s all for now. I remain your friend,
